Alykes wetlands used to be a sea salt production site. Alykes means “Salt Flats” in Greek. Today they have become a wetland hosting a vast variety of wild species such as birds migrating from Africa and Northern Europe. Wetlands are located at Tigaki on the north side of the island, about 11 km from the city of Kos. Tigaki beach is ideal for lovers of surfing and water sports.
