Anavatos, the so-called Mystras of the Aegean, is a fort built on a rock. It is located in the center of Chios island, 16 km from the city. It is a medieval building full of history and pride for the inhabitants of the island. At the massacre of the Ottomans to the inhabitants (as a retaliation for the Greek Revolution), the Chiotians committed suicide by jumping from the rock, where the fortress is located, since they did not want to be enslaved to the Ottomans.
The imposing gate on the wall, the excellent buildings on the eastern side, the Teaching room, the Tank and the Panagia Church, the vaulted houses, the arches, the cobblestone streets fascinate the visitors.
