Ancient Edessa was an important city of Macedonia, built on the most important natural passage connecting the upper mountain with the lower lowlands of Macedonia. Ancient houses, shops and columns are found in the ancient city of Edessa. The relics of ancient Edessa, under the current city, in the fertile field of Loggos, present to the visitor the past of this picturesque city of Northern Greece. From Edessa descended Chrysogonos, general of King Philip V (220-179 B.C.).
