Ancient Mende Chalkidiki

Thucydides mentions ancient Mendi as a colony of Eretria, which was founded in Pallini (modern Kassandra), the western peninsula of Halkidiki. The date of its foundation is not delivered to us, but the presence of the Eretrians and Chalcidians in the northern Greek territory is generally in the context of the second colonization in the 8th century. B.C.

The archaeological site of Mendis is now almost unnoticed by the thousands of tourists who flood the area every year, and it is undoubtedly worth visiting and seeing what remains of the once thriving city that was famous for its wine.
