Koursoum Mosque or Osman Shah Temple of Trikala is an Islamic mosque, a 16th-century building designed by Mimar Sinan, which today functions as a place for mild events. It is so called by the Turkish word Kursum, which means lead, as its dome is lead-covered. Close to the mosque is the octagonal mausoleum (turbulence) of its founder, Osman Shah, grandson of Sultan Selim A, governor of the local province (santzaki) who died in Trikala in 1567/8. Traditionally, Osman built the mosque because in Trikala he was cured of an illness that troubled him. The mosque today is a monument protected by UNESCO and serves as a place for mild events.
