The Monastery of Archangelos is one of the most well-preserved historical monuments of of the municipality Almopia. Its foundation dates back to the late 18th – early 19th century and it is named after it by the village of Archangelos, located a few minutes from the monastery (its old name was Osiani). It is dedicated to the Archangel Michael and currently hosts five monks, while it is said that in the early years it was dedicated to St. John the prodromo, it is also said that the monastery is built on an ancient sanctuary dedicated to the Goddess Artemis.
The monastery is said to have served as a refuge and a base of captains during the Macedonian struggle.
