Monastery Katharon

The  Monastery of Katharon is a pilgrimage and a point of reference for the Ithaca people but also for the visitors .It is built on the southeast summit of Mount Neritos, 15 km from Vathy. The Monastery of Katharon is built opposite the bay of Ithaca port, so you can see the bell tower from all over the southern island. The monastery is dedicated to the Birth of the Virgin Mary and celebrates on 8 September. On the eve of the feast of the Holy Monastery of Katharon, a traditional feast is taking place there. In 1953, due to earthquakes, the bell tower was destroyed and rebuilt.
