Monastery of Agioi Anargyroi, Lemesos Cyprus

Two kilometers from Phini, on the road leading to Agios Dimitrios, is the monastery of Agioi Anargyroi, from which only the church that is double and wooden-roofed is preserved. The existence of the monastery dates back to the Middle Ages. It was originally part of the Monastery of Panagia Trooditissa. In the 19th century, it began to decline and in 1850, it was abandoned by its last monk. Originally, as its architectural design reveals, it was one-aisled, but in the 18th century the southern wall was demolished and the church took its present form. The first testimony we have about the monastery of Agioi Anargyroi is from a note in the code 581 of the National Library of Paris, which informs us that in the 17th century it was united with the famous monastery of Panagia Trooditissa. It is generally believed that the monastery existed from the period of the Frankish rule (1191 – 1571), and perhaps it was founded during the Byzantine years, when the great monasteries of Kykkos and Trooditissas were created. Believers are in the church 3 times a year, 1 July, 1 November, and Easter Monday.
