The river Loudia

The river Loudia from the past years collected in the hospitable ravine the waters from the mountains of Voras, Vermio and Paiko, which through the lake of Giannitsa ended up in the Thermaic. After the drainage of the lake, however, Loudias gathers water mainly from Paiko, and much of it has been converted into an artificial canal.

The river “feeds” the surrounding areas that are fertile. And, as it is floating, the rowing center has been in Giannitsa for decades. The location is called “Zero” due to zero altitude at sea level. The Nautical Club of Giannitsa is active in the canoeing at the Canoe – Kayak and Rowing sports. Also the river is an important biotope for many species of fauna.
