Florina is a city of Western Macedonia, the capital of Florinas Regional Unity. The city of Florina is at an altitude of 687 meters and has a population of 17,686 inhabitants. Florina is the gateway to the Prespa Lakes. It is located west of Edessa, northwest of Kozani, and northeast of Ioannina and Kastoria cities. Winters bring heavy snow and long periods of temperature below freezing point. Florina and the surrounding area are undoubtedly one of those endowed. Beautiful city, ski 18 km above, Nymphaio in the "high" of the Prefecture and the world monument of nature, Prespes on the other side. Sakulevas, the river crossing the settlement of Florina, is the city's reference field. On its shores, the most beautiful buildings, many of the shops are built. Florina is a market town with an economy dominated by agriculture, forestry, summer and winter tourism, cross-border trading and the sale of local produce such as grain, grapes, and vegetables including Florina peppers. It also has textile mills and is known for locally manufactured leather handicrafts.
