Prefecture Larissa is located in the central part of Thessaly. The capital of the prefecture is the homonymous city of Larissa, most of which covers the Thessalian plain. The climate is Mediterranean, with warm summers and mild winters, while the combination of Mount Olympus, the highest Greek mountain in the northeast of the prefecture, with the Pinios River creates a magical atmosphere, ideal for all tastes. Many streams and small rivers flow through the plain, while the Polydendri Forest, the Tempi Valley and the beaches of Agiokampos, Velika and Kokkino Nero are of particular value. It is worth visiting the numerous antiquities, monuments and museums. The main archaeological sites are Acropolis, ancient theaters and prehistoric settlements, and the Municipal Art Gallery, Folklore and National Resistance museums.
