The imposing church of Panagia Tinou (Virgin Mary of Tinos) was founded in 1823, on the spot where the icon of the Annunciation was found, following Aghia Pelaghia’s vision.
Made of white marble, it is a brilliant structure, the first remarkable architectural monument of the liberated Greek nation.
Entering the church from the main gate, you can see on your left the miraculous icon of the Annunciation, full of offerings. The church itself is also full of offerings, each one of them reminding a miracle.
Under this magnificent church, you can visit the church of Evressi (the Discovery), which is dedicated to Zoodochos Pighi (Life Giving Fountain). Entering it, you can see, on your left, the remainings of an early Christian church, dedicated to Aghios Ioannis (St.John). On the same spot there was once the ancient greek temple of Dionyssos.
The yard in front of the main entrance to the complex is of exceptional folk art, paved with pebbles, and was constructed in 1833.
