Panagia Flevariotissa monastery on Astipalaia island

On Astypalaia island there are over 350 temples – chapels with a great storehouse. Panagia Flebariotis monastery is one of them. Monastery reminds of Cycladic churches due to white colour and the beautiful wood-carved iconostasis.

According to legend, a shepherd used to live in a cave, one night he found the icon of the Virgin Mary. The next night he went back to the cave again. Then it was decided to be build the monastery at this point.
