Saint George Valsamitis Amorgos

Only three kilometers from the chora of Amorgos on the way down we meet Saint George Valsamitis. According to the tradition there was one of the three divinities of Ancient Greece. They called it so because water sprang from the source where people then thought they were showing the future. Today, water flows from 3-4 small springs around the metoxi. It concentrates on an adjacent cistern and from there it flows to the few remaining pergolas.The monastery complex of St. George Varsamitis, well known to the naval world of the Southeastern Aegean during the Ottoman domination, due to the prophetic properties of its source.

It became a monastery during the Byzantium time until it become a dependance of Chozoviotissa.
