Aegiali is the second port of Amorgos. Along the beautiful beach you will find many beach bars and taverns, while most young people gather here, as in Aegiali is the camping of the island. Perched on the mountain behind Aegiali a four beautiful villages: Tholaria, Langada, Potamos and Ormos.Tholaria to the left, Lagada in the centre, Potamos on the right and on the beach, Ormos. The snow white houses, close to oneanother, look like flocks of sheep grazing on the slopes of the Gialitikon mountains. As the boat approaches the pier, you can see the fabulous beach of Aegiali with its fine sand and crystal waters. This is what makes Aegiali stand out from the other villages of Amorgos. Going down to the waterfront, beautiful images unfold in front of the visitor. Fishing boats, boats, nets, never-ending sandy beaches, the trees from armyristries (bush-like plant that grows by the sea) that surround the curve of the beach all create a fascinating landscape.
This lovely settlement of Aegiali is called Ormos and is the most recently built in the region as in the old times the villages were built away from the sea safe from pirates. It wasn’t until 1830, when the last pirates were expelled by the Greek State that fishermen, captains and merchants moved down from the other villages, that Ormos was created. Nowadays, this settlement has developed so much that it can provide its visitors with pretty much everything from hotels, to bars, shops, taverns, etc.
Potamos is located to the south of Ormos and is the village that has the best view in Aegiali.
Next is Lagada, which is four kilometres away, five minutes by any means of transportation, from Ormos. Here you will find beautiful, white houses with typical Cycladic architecture that captivates the eye.
The fourth village of the area, Tholaria, is located on the northwestern side and is close to Vigla, in ancient Aegiali. It is 3.5 km away from Ormos approximately four minutes by car. Beautiful houses, cobblestone streets, arches and most of all friendly people who will greetyou with a smile in the morning. Visitors can find hotels, taverns and shops to serve their needs and can enjoy a quiet holiday here.
